Fedroff Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

Rightfielder Tim Fedroff homered twice and knocked in seven runs to lead Carolina to a series win at No. 1 ranked Miami and is the Progress Energy Tar Heel of the Week for May 12-18, 2008. A sophomore from Flagtown, N.J., Fedroff hit .429 (6-14) and score three times in the three-game set in Coral Gables. Fedroff, who slugged .929 against the Canes, went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run that lifted Carolina to a 9-0 lead Saturday. In Sunday's finale, Fedroff went 2-for-5 with five RBI on a two-run double in the fourth inning and a three-run home run in the fifth that proved to be the difference in the Tar Heels' 12-11 victory. Fedroff, who finished the week with a .353 average, is batting .383 with 11 home runs, 13 stolen bases and 56 RBI on the season.

Junior Brie Felnagle turned in a stellar performance in the 1500-meter run on Saturday as she broke her own school record as she clocked a 4:08.54 at the UNC Elite Meet in Chapel Hill. Felnagle's time is the top collegiate effort of the year by nearly four seconds and trails only Shannon Rowbury's 4:07.59 in the United States rankings in 2008. Felnagle now owns a top four national time in both the 800 and 1500 along with a top 25 time in the 5000 and has put herself in a good position for the NCAA East Regional in two weeks. Felnagle held the previous Carolina-best outdoor mark in the 1500 with a 4:09.93 in 2007.

Bosica scored four second-half goals as the unseeded Tar Heels nearly pulled off their second consecutive upset of a seeded team on the road in NCAA Tournament play. Bosica's four goals included one that gave UNC its only lead of the game at 10-9 in the final 10 minutes of action of Saturday's NCAA quarterfinal. She also scored an unassisted goal with 3:21 left to pull Carolina within one goal at 12-11 before losing, 13-11, to the fifth-seeded Orange in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y.
