North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox
Opening Statement:
"First off, I want to congratulate Mark and his staff. They are a great team and you can see that. They are a great club and it took all we had to win this regional here today. They won 44 games for a reason. It feels great to be returning to the Super Regional again. We got some big hits and pitches for the guys up here today. I thought Ryan Graepel was terrific all weekend at shortstop. He played exceptionally well and got a big swing of the bat there in the eighth inning, to add on that seventh run, which proved to be a big one. I congratulate Wilmington and I am very proud of my team and my staff, we are excited to play in the Super Regional next weekend."
On a potential match-up with Coastal Carolina:
"Well I know they beat us like a drum last time we played them. We know how good they are and they've been good for a number of years. They are a great club and it would be a terrific challenge for us if that is who we get. I am just glad we are playing at home. They present a number of problems offensively, with speed and power, you see all those runs they score. They are a scary club."
DH Mark Fleury
On his three-run home run:
"I almost kind of knew it was coming because he threw me a fastball before and I think he was going to catch me off guard and beat me again. So I was kind of cheating for it and I was lucky he threw it there and put a good swing on it."
Right fielder Tim Fedroff
On his MVP performance this weekend:
"I lot of it was just getting ready with my approach at-bat and trying to drive the ball up the middle. I was just trying to stay within myself and not trying to do too much, hit the ball where it was pitched. It is only one weekend and it feels good, hopefully we can continue to do the same next weekend."
UNC-Wilmington Head Coach Mark Scalf
Opening Statement:
"I want to congratulate North Carolina and we had a good run today. We got a great start from Larry, but just could not claw back tonight. Carolina has some great pitching, especially coming out of the bullpen. I thought we had a good showing and we enjoyed being back in the area. I thought if we could just get the bats going and put the pressure on them defensively we could push it to tomorrow."
On the turning point of the game:
"You know we felt like when they added the runs after the home run the game turned. I really felt like if we could just continue to string some at-bats together we were aggressive and could fine some holes we would have a chance. We did hit some balls hard tonight. I thought one of the things that hurt us, was in the first inning we had runners on first and second with nobody out and we don't get anything out of that. We had a bunt and they got the lead runner, then groundball, flyball and we are out of the inning. I felt like we couldn't get our two-out hit when we needed early in the ball game, where we had a chance to add on before they did."
Third baseman Nate Hall
On not being able to score runs early:
"I mean it is very frustrating, but it's baseball. I felt like we put some good swings on the bat and hit some balls hard, but we were not able to strike early."
Right fielder Bobby Leeper
On the teams performance this weekend:
"I feel like we performed pretty good, we just weren't able to strike early this game. It was an emotional win early today, but we fell short of our goal."
