Ackley, Fedroff Among Final 16 For Wallace Award

LUBBOCK, Texas - North Carolina sophomore All-Americas Dustin Ackley and Tim Fedroff are among the final 16 players up for the Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Award, the College Baseball Foundation announced Tuesday. The Tar Heels join Miami and Arizona State as the only schools with multiple players among the final 16 honorees.
Ackley (.405) and Fedroff (.402) are two of just three players in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a batting average above .400 entering this weekend's Super Regional versus Coastal Carolina. Both earned a spot on last week on the Cary Regional All-Tournament Team, with Fedroff claiming Most Outstanding Player honors after going 9-for-11 with eight RBI over three games.
For the season, Ackley is batting .405 with 75 runs scored, seven homers, 47 RBI and 18 steals, while Fedroff is hitting .402 with 12 home runs, 20 doubles and 67 RBI.
The Tar Heels open play in the NCAA Super Regional against Coastal Carolina at noon Saturday on ESPNU.
