CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Department of Athletics will not charge admission to regular-season men's and women's soccer games at Fetzer Field this fall. Extensive renovations are currently under way at Carmichael Auditorium, which is located adjacent to Fetzer Field. Because of the construction, spectators will not be permitted to walk on the paved driveway between the intramural fields and Carmichael.
"It's going to be a little different setup for our fans, so we felt the proper course of action was to temporarily suspend charging for admission to Fetzer until we get a little cleaner access to the front entrance," says director of athletics Dick Baddour. "Fans may still enter the stadium through the traditional front gate, as well as two other entrances."
Fans will be able to enter the grandstand at Fetzer Field in three locations: 1. the main gate behind the press box; 2. a gate at the back of the intramural fields located in the back left corner of the grandstand; and 3. a gate at field level near the entrance to the Eddie Smith Indoor Fieldhouse.
To enter the two gates at the back of the grandstand, fans will need to descend the steps off South Road and walk across the intramural fields.
Public parking will be available in the School of Government and Cobb parking decks on South Road after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. Additional parking is available in the Ramshead Deck on Ridge Road. Disability parking is available in the School of Government deck.
Restrooms will be available in the Eddie Smith Indoor Fieldhouse.
"The Carmichael renovation is a major construction project which requires us to make some changes, but we are going to do everything we can to make certain that our fans have a safe and enjoyable experience when they come to our athletic events," says Baddour. "Our fans are important to our success and we want to thank them for their continued support."
The first event at Fetzer Field is the women's soccer season opener against Charlotte on Friday, August 22, at 7 p.m.
