Tar Heel Golfers Bow Out At U.S. Women's Amateur

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfers Sydney Crane and Allie White both lost their first round match at the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur in Eugene, Ore. Sydney Crane, a rising senior for the Tar Heels, lost to Megan McChrystal, a rising sophomore from LSU, 2&1. Earlier in the day, Allie White, a rising freshman at Carolina, lost to Ellen Mueller, a rising sophomore at Oklahoma, 3&2.
Match play continues through Sunday at the par 72, 6,484-yard Eugene Country Club when the champion will be crowned following a 36-hole final.
Earlier this summer, Crane, an All-ACC performer from Jamestown, N.C., advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2008 Women's North and South Amateur and participated in the Carolinas-Virginias Team Matches. White, from Lancaster, Ohio, has also carded two runner-up finishes this summer. She tied for second place at the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) Rolex Girls Junior Championship played at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., and was the runner-up at the Hudson Junior Invitational in Hudson, Ohio.
