CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The UNC Tar Heels kicked off a weekend of play in the Duke Indoor Invitational on Saturday morning.
Saturday's play started at 11 a.m. with four UNC doubles teams matched against four pairs from East Tennessee State University. Fifth-ranked Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman set the pace for the Tar Heels with an 8-2 win, followed by Andrew Crone and Zach Hunter's 8-5 victory. Cameron Ahari and Luke Mojica won their tiebreaker 7-5 to secure a 9-8 win.
Donato, ranked 73rd in the country in singles, was then matched with ninth ranked Enrique Olivares in singles play. The Canada native had no problem with his higher-ranked opponent, dispatching him in straight sets.
The Invitational is North Carolina's final preseason tune-up before the dual match season begins with a doubleheader on January 25. The Tar Heels will take on Charlotte and James Madison in the opener.
