UNC-Miami Postgame Quotes
North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams
On Wayne Ellington:
"The last five minutes of the first half was crucial, then early in the second half we were still pretty good defensively, then Wayne got it going. It was fun to see that youngster have some success, it's been tough on him. Nobody has been wanting to make shots more than he has, he's worked at it, he's kept a wonderful attitude and he's done things to try to help out in other ways. Tyler had 20 at half and couldn't get anything going in the second half, Wayne didn't do anything first half and got all 23 in the second half. I told him after the game that I need to run him more because he got out of shape, he made seven and then missed those two because he just lost his legs on that."
On Ty Lawson:
"Another key to the game was Ty Lawson's defense, late in the first half and his defense in the second half. I knew it wasn't very good early, he had two turnovers and no assists when we were behind and then he had eight straight assists without a turnover. It's nice to have a shot go in. We had a difficult time keeping him off the boards and trying to guard Jack McClinton."
On Miami:
"They had 11 offensive rebounds in the first half, and I guess they finished with 16. You have to understand that they were a good rebounding team before they got to the Smith Center, they were leading the ACC in rebound margins so we knew that was going to be a big part of the game, the first 15 minutes in the first half it was their work on the backboards and our turnovers were the reason the score was the way it was and the reason were playing so poorly."
Miami head coach Quotes - Frank Haith
Opening statement
"I thought we played really hard, I thought we competed, obviously Ellington got loose, fought our transition defense the first 3 he hit in the 2nd half and then he got it going. I thought that the 1st half when we had the lead we were executing around our offense, thought we got it kiltered. I thought once they started making shots and Ellington made 3 in a row, we started going one-on-one. We aren't good enough to do that, that's not who we are. We gotta run offense. 1st half of running offense we were sharing the ball. I thought once they got away from us we tried to do too much one-on-one. With that said I thought we competed, thought we played hard. We gotta give Carolina credit, they made big shots, they got their crowd into it. They were very encouraging and it affected everyone on the court."
On DeQuan Jones
"DeQuan had a good performance and I thought he played hard and played well. He made some nice plays. Hopefully something he can build on as we move forward in the year."
On loss
"We just gotta move forward. One loss can't end a season. I sure hope that wouldn't happen to our program. We got a big game on Wednesday against Florida State and we gotta go to work."
UNC Player Quotes
"It felt good knocking them down. It was good to have a game where I could build some confidence and get back in a groove. I was going to continue to take them. I have faith in the way I shoot the ball. Tonight just showed that if you stick with it, it can happen for you. Coach told me to keep shooting."
Danny Green
On Ellington:
"I know he had a couple of games where he struggled, but he's a shooter. He's going to keep shooting them. I look back a couple weeks ago or a month I was in the same position. It makes us more effective and a lot more difficult to guard when everyone's cooking. It opens a lot of things in the middle. It keeps the other team honest."
"My blocks, they're just hustle plays really."
Tyler Hansbrough
On Ellington:
"When you have guys hitting shots like that, it opens things up. It takes away the double teams. "
