CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Looking to rebound from just its second loss of the season, No. 4 North Carolina will travel to Virginia Tech Saturday for a 7 p.m. start at Thompson Field. The Tar Heels (9-2-2, 3-2-1 ACC) currently sit tied for second in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Hokies (4-7-2, 2-2-0 ACC) are tied for sixth in the league standings.
Carolina will have had a week off since a 2-1 loss to Boston College Oct. 17 when it returns to the pitch. The Tar Heels found themselves in an early 2-0 deficit to the Eagles and were unable rebound despite a second-half goal from Cameron Brown and a 16-7 edge in shots. Virginia Tech scored a 1-0 win over Davidson Tuesday in its last action.
Brown, Michael Farfan and Billy Schuler pace UNC's diverse offensive attack with five goals each. The Tar Heels have outscored the opposition by a 25-9 margin and own six shutouts on the season. Carolina has allowed more than one goal just twice.
Virginia Tech has been outscored on the season by a 24-15 margin. Clarke Bentley and Emmanuel Akogyeram lead the Hokies with three goals apiece.
The Tar Heels lead the all-time series by a 9-2 margin and they hold a 3-2 edge since the Hokies joined the ACC in 2004. Carolina scored a 3-2 win last season in Chapel Hill and took the last meeting in Blacksburg, 2-1, in 2006.
UNC hosts its home finale Wednesday, Oct. 28 against Stetson.
