CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - No. 3 North Carolina carries a streak of two consecutive shutouts into Tuesday's meeting with high-scoring Liberty at Fetzer Field at 7 p.m. The Tar Heels (7-1-1) blanked Radford and No. 12 Virginia last week and have not yielded a score in their last 200 minutes of action.
The Flames (5-1-2) played to a scoreless draw with Coastal Carolina Saturday but have outscored the opposition by a 21-2 margin on the season. Liberty tallied 10 goals in a season-opening 10-1 victory over Concord and has allowed just one score since. The Flames have posted four consecutive shutouts.
Thanks to their back-to-back shutouts, the Tar Heels have allowed just five goals on the season to share the ACC lead. Behind goalkeeper Brooks Haggerty, who leads the ACC with a 0.53 goals against average and four shutouts, Carolina has surrendered just two goals to non-conference opponents.
Offensively, UNC continues to lead the ACC with 19 goals, including four each from junior midfielders Cameron Brown and Michael Farfan. Brown was named to national teams of the week by Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News following a goal and an assist last week.
Darren Amoo leads Liberty with 17 points on seven goals and three assists.
Tuesday's meeting marks the fourth straight season that Carolina and Liberty have squared off. The Tar Heels have won all three meetings by a 12-2 margin.
Carolina returns to conference action Friday at No. 7 Wake Forest.
