Carolina played its 750th match in the history of the program Sunday, winning for the 692nd time.
Georgia was ranked No. 18 in the final NCAA RPI heading into the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs possessed the highest RPI of any opponent the Tar Heels have faced in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Kristi Eveland started her 100th career game against the Bulldogs. She became the fifth Tar Heel in school history to start 100 games in their career.
Senior defender Whitney Engen started for the 99th time in her career in Sunday's match.
Sunday's win marked the 28th successive season in which the Tar Heels have won their first two NCAA Tournament games. Since the field expanded to 16 teams for the first time in 1994, Carolina has now made the Sweet 16 in 16 successive years.
Carolina improved to 102-7-1 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
Carolina has now outscored its opponents 383-59 in 110 NCAA Tournament games.
Carolina won its 19th game, just one win shy of reaching 20 wins in a season for the 25th time in 31 seasons.
