OAKLAND, CALIF. - Freshmen midfielders Amber Brooks and Lucy Bronze were both named Friday to the Freshman All-America Teams chosen by Soccer America magazine. Both players ended the year as starters for Carolina throughout the team's successful runs to Tournament titles in both the ACC and NCAA events.
Brooks was named to the first-team by Soccer America. A native of New Hope, Pa., Brooks played in all 27 games for the Tar Heels as a playmaking center midfielder, starting 15 times. She had assists on three goals this year.
Bronze was tapped for the second team. A native of Northumberland, England, she played in 24 games, starting eight games. She scored three goals and had four assits for 10 points. All three goals came in the post-season -- against Maryland in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, the game-winner against High Point in the NCAA first round and an insurance goal against Georgia in the NCAA second round. Bronze assisted on the game-winning goals against Georgia in the NCAA second round and against Notre Dame in the NCAA semifinals.
