CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Second-team All-ACC pick Cameron Brown's vision has helped him find an open teammate or the back of the net this season in close games. Brown scored the game-winning goal on a header in overtime against Virginia and the go-ahead goal against rival Duke during the regular season. Brown is third on the team in points with five goals and three assists. On Sunday, he continued to show his talent for contributing in close games when he served the ball to Alex Dixon for the game's only goal in the 1-0 win against Indiana.
The Tar Heels will look to Brown to spark their offense and make big plays when they face Drake on Friday at Fetzer Field in the NCAA quarterfinals.
TarHeelBlue.com: You've had some dramatic finishes this season, which goal is your favorite?
Cameron Brown: My favorite goal this year had to have been the goal that Billy Schuler scored against ETSU because it showed that even though things were not going our way and we were struggling to find the game we still battled it out and won the game.
THB.com: You were nominated by Soccer News Net Player of the Year. What would that honor mean to you?
CB: It would mean a whole lot because people have said that I really haven't done much here at UNC and it would just mean a great deal to me to be any kind of player of the year.
THB.com: Other than the score, what statistic is most important you?
CB: Assists are important to me because the pass comes first in order for you to score the goal.
THB.com: What are the keys to the team's postseason success?
CB: Our defense is really tough to play against because of their organization and ability to read the game.
THB.com: How does the elimination format of the NCAA Tournament affect the team's play?
CB: We have to win, so we cannot make any mistakes because we know it could cost us. We also really try to increase our focus each game.
THB.com: What do you enjoy doing when you're not on the soccer field?
CB: Being on the computer and playing PES on my PS3.
THB.com: What do you think is your greatest skill on the soccer field?
CB: I would have to say my vision during the game, but I just play and let others form opinions about me.
THB.com: What lessons have Coach Bolowich taught you on and off the field?
To discover myself individually and he has told me to make a name for myself.
THB.com: How have you grown as a soccer player this season?
CB: Being a junior I have learned to lead a little bit this year, helping out others with their game.
THB.com: What is the best thing about being about playing soccer at Carolina?
CB: The way we play the game and getting to play with all the guys on the team.
