• Happy 78th Birthday, Coach Dean Smith
• Tyler Hansbrough went 8 for 8 from the free throw line and became the NCAA career leader in free throws made with 907. He broke Wake Forest's Dickie Hemric's record set in 1955 with his 906th free throw with 14:54 to play in the second half.
• Hansbrough scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds to post his eighth double-double of the season and 43rd of his career.
• The 28 points marked his 73rd career game with at least 20 points (already an ACC record) and 36th game with 25 or more. It was his 124th game in double figures, which is now five shy of the ACC record held by Duke's JJ Redick.
• Hansbrough now has 2,678 points, 91 points from tying Redick for the ACC record.
• Danny Green had 23 points, the most he has ever scored in an ACC game (previous was 22 at Wake Forest this year). It was Green's seventh career 20-point game and his fifth this year. Green has set personal career highs against NC State, Maryland and Georgia Tech in his last three games (most points against those teams in his career).
• Ty Lawson tied his career high with 11 assists (also had 11 against Notre Dame in Maui). He had four points, all on made free throws. He went 0 for 3 from the line, the fewest field goal attempts he has taken this year. He had a career-high 20 shots from the floor in the previous game at Maryland.
• Carolina had five assists on 29 field goals in the loss at Maryland, but had six today in the first six minutes and eight seconds (Lawson had three, Ed Davis had two and Bobby Frasor had one in that span). The Tar Heels finished with 26 assists on 37 baskets.
• Carolina won its 25th game of the season. This is the 31st season all-time in which Carolina has won 25 or more games, including the fourth time in the last five years under head coach Roy Williams. It is the 16th time in 21 seasons as a head coach that Williams's teams have won 25 or more games.
• Wayne Ellington scored 10 points to extend his streak of double figure scoring games to a personal-best 16 games.
• Bobby Frasor made a season high four field goals and matched his season scoring high with nine points. He also had nine at Duke.
