Tar Heels Celebrate 2008 Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior All-ACC forward Brian Shriver, who led North Carolina to a national runner-up finish with 14 goals, was honored with the Tar Heels' Mike Thompson Most Valuable Player Award to highlight the annual season-ending banquet for the UNC men's soccer team, held Friday, Feb. 6 at the Carolina Inn.
Other award winners in addition to Shriver included: senior All-America midfielder Michael Callahan (Nicholas Douglass Potter Coaches Award), senior goalkeeper Jacob Wescoe (Tom Evins, Jr. Most Improved Player Award), junior forward Bill Dworsky (Mercer Reynolds Tar Heel Award) and freshman forward Billy Schuler (Most Competitive Player Award).
In addition to Carolina's seniors, soccer alumni Matt Crawford, Robert Kelly, and Aaron Gard addressed the crowd of 120 alumni, family, friends and athletic department staff, including athletic director Dick Baddour. Longtime soccer supporter Carol McCaskill was also in attendance.
The evening celebrated one of the best seasons in Carolina men's soccer history, which culminated with a trip to the NCAA College Cup and a national runner-up finish.
