CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina senior right-hander Adam Warren added a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team to his already-impressive resume Tuesday, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced. An academic all-district selection for each of the past three seasons, the New Bern, N.C., native is the first Tar Heel to earn academic All-America honors since Chris Elmore and Tyrell Godwin in 2000.
Warren, who owns a 3.36 grade point average in business administration, is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, is a Dean's List student and a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. He graduated from the University's Kenan-Flagler Business School earlier this month.
A second-team All-ACC pick, Warren is 7-2 with a 3.46 ERA and a career-high 81 strikeouts in 78 innings this season. He owns a 29-4 career record for a .879 winning percentage and ranks among the program's all-time top three in both wins and winning percentage.
Warren was one of three ACC players on the academic All-America squad, joining Duke's Nate Freiman and Georgia Tech's Derek Dietrich.
Warren and the Tar Heels open the 2009 NCAA Chapel Hill Regional Friday against Dartmouth at Boshamer Stadium.
