SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association named Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman to the 2009 All-America team Friday.
The two were chosen for their play in doubles after they reached the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships last Sunday.
"I'm really proud of Clay and Taylor, because earning All-America honors is not an easy thing to do," said Head Coach Sam Paul. "They've been one of the best teams in the country all year long."
Fogleman's selection marks the second year in a row that he made the All-America doubles team. He reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships in 2008. It is Donato's first All-America selection.
"For Taylor to [make the All-America team] in back-to-back years says a lot about him," said Paul. "We're certainly going to miss his leadership."
The pair posted a record of 36-9 in the 2008-09 season en route to a final ranking of 11th in the nation.
Fogleman finished his Tar Heel career with a 100-33 mark in doubles, good for a career win percentage of .752. Donato will look to break the century mark next year too, as he will begin the 2009-10 season with a 74-17 record in doubles play.
On Monday, tennisrecruiting.net ranked UNC's incoming freshman class 10th in the nation. The Tar Heels signed the top two high school players in North Carolina in addition to one of the top junior players in the world from the Dominican Republic.
"We're very excited for next year," said Paul. "We lose Taylor, but we have everyone else coming back and we have one of the best incoming classes in the country."
