North Carolina's 12-10 victory over Connecticut marked its first fourth-quarter come-from-behind win since last year's victory over Notre Dame. The Tar Heels were down 10-0 after three quarters, and UNC's last win on the road after trailing by 10-plus points came at Miami last season.
Carolina's defense has allowed just 16 points over its first two games of the season for its lowest total in the opening two games since surrendering just 10 points over the first two contests of the 1996 season. The Tar Heels are 2-0 for the second straight season and just the second time since 2000.
The Tar Heels' 12 points marked their fewest in a victory under Butch Davis and fewest in a win since a 7-5 victory over Virginia in 2005.
Sophomore center Cam Holland made his first career start today in place of senior Lowell Dyer, who suffered a shoulder injury earlier in the week during practice. Holland was joined on the offensive line by Greg Ellery, who made his second career start, but first start at offensive guard. Ellery made one start in 2008 at defensive tackle.
North Carolina was missing three starters on offense, including Dyer, Cooper and fullback Bobby Rome, who did not travel due to an illness.
True freshman wide receiver Erik Highsmith made the first catches of his career and finished with four grabs for 59 yards, including a long play of 21 on third-and-18 in the fourth quarter.
Cornerback Charles Brown was responsible for causing both of Connecticut's turnovers in the first half. Brown stripped a receiver of the ball and recovered the fumble, and later had a 37-yard interception return. He has two interceptions on the season and five for his career.
Wide receiver Greg Little posted a career-best with eight catches for 45 yards. He needed just one quarter to match his previous career-high in receptions with four for 40 yards in the first quarter. He also had four catches vs. South Carolina in 2007 and Duke in 2008.
T.J. Yates became just the fifth player in UNC history to throw for 4,000 career yards. He was 23-for-32 for 233 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday's win.
North Carolina allowed six sacks today. In 2008, the most the Tar Heels allowed in a game was four vs. Virginia Tech.
Tight end Zack Pianalto had a career-high 87 yards receiving today on a career-best seven catches. He scored the game-tying touchdown - the second scoring grab of his career - in the fourth quarter. His previous best was 55 yards vs. Wake Forest in 2007.
Of the 27 games Carolina has played under Butch Davis, 16 of them have been decided by seven points or less.
Linebacker Bruce Carter recorded his sixth career sack in the first quarter.
Sophomore defensive end Quinton Coples posted two sacks Saturday, bettering his 2008 season total of 1.5.
