CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina junior midfielder Michael Farfan, who netted the game-winner in the Tar Heels' win over NC State last Saturday, was honored for his 65th-minute strike with a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
The Wildomar, Calif., native is off to a fast start as a Tar Heel and leads the team with seven points on three goals and an assist in just four games. To net Saturday's game winner, Farfan took possession outside the box on a feed from Enzo Martinez, beat a defender at the edge of the area then blasted a shot that ricocheted off the right post for the game-winning goal.
Farfan and the Tar Heels are back in action at 7 p.m. Friday at Fetzer Field against Duke in another key Atlantic Coast Conference match. Carolina drew a crowd of 4,221 to the NC State match for the second-largest crowd in school history. The last time the Blue Devils came to Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels drew a Fetzer record 4,717 in 2007.
