Stephanie Murad and Christine Knauer Receive Honors

Stephanie Murad and Christine Knauer received honors during halftime of the UNC – Wake Forest basketball game on January 20, 2010. Murad was named as an Athletic Director Scholar-Athlete Award Winner. Knauer was honored as one of Carolina's Leaders of Distinction given by the Carolina Leadership Academy.
Stephanie Murad, a senior third baseman on the softball team, received the award due to her excellent academic efforts. The Greensboro, NC native has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the past three years. Murad is a journalism and international studies major with a concentration in public relations.
Christine Knauer received the highest award given by the Carolina Leadership Academy by being named a Leader of Distinction. The Carolina Leadership Academy (CLA) assists student-athletes in developing leadership qualities both on-and-off the field. Knauer was a member of the Veteran Leaders program within the CLA, which is designed to enhance the leadership qualities of team captains and upperclassmen student-athletes.
Knauer is a biology major with plans of becoming a doctor. She has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the past three seasons. The Long Island, NY native, led the team in stolen bases in 2009 with 28.
