Softball Upsets No. 18 Duke, 6-5

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina softball upset no. 18 Duke on Saturday afternoon by a score of 6-5 in front of a program-record 1,109 people in attendance. The win not only marked the Tar Heels first win over the Blue Devils since Mar. 9, 2019, but it was also head coach Megan Smith Lyon's 100th win at UNC.

Duke was able to snag a 4-0 lead in the third inning, but the Tar Heels fought right back with Emily LeGette blasting a three-run home run to deep right field for her 22nd of the season. She now has sole possession of second in single season program history.

In the following inning, Rayna Blackwell belted her ninth home run of the season to left field to put UNC up 5-4. A few batters later Reece Outlaw came around to score on a wild pitch to make it a 6-4 ball game.

Kendall Frost entered the game with two gone in the fourth, immediately got out of the inning on one pitch. She went out the next three innings and dominated. Allowing just run and guiding Carolina to the historic win.

Carolina now looks to take the series tomorrow at noon on ACCNX.
