Tar Heels Check In At No. 3 In Initial RPI Rankings

With the release of the first NCAA Men's Soccer RPI this week the Tar Heels find themselves among familiar company as they rank No. 3 in the first edition. Carolina will take on Boston College on Friday the 67th-ranked team this week.
The RPI is based upon results and strength of schedule, and has three primary components. Part I (25% of the formula): Team winning percentage. Part II (50%): Average opponents' winning percentage. Part III (25%): Average opponents' opponents' winning percentage.
Carolina has faced six teams in the top 30 of the RPI Rankings and own a 4-2 record against them with wins over Maryland (7), Duke (15), Virginia (29) and Wake Forest (30).
The Tar Heels will face another top 20 team next week when they welcome South Carolina to Chapel Hill for a midweek clash.
