Tar Heels Start Strong At ITA Carolina Regional

CHAPEL HILL- The North Carolina men's tennis team started strong in the doubles portion of the ITA-USTA 2010 Carolinas Regional, with all four Tar Heel pairings advancing to the Round of 16.
After a buy in the first round, the 4th-seed team of Brennan Boyajian and Stefan Hardy defeated Ahmet Sarioglu and Orcun Seyrek of UNC-Greensboro, 8-3.
At the bottom of the bracket, Jose Hernandez continued his recent good form, partnering with Joey Burkhardt. The pairing also received a first-round bye as the tournament's No. 2 seed, then defeated Nicolai Nonnenbroich and Nathan White of UNC-Asheville, 8-5.
William Parker and Zach Hunter won two matches on the day, the first a 9-7 win against Massimo Mannino and John Schmitt of East Carolina. Then they took out Timion Meijs and Chanon Varapongsittikul of Greensboro, 8-3, to advance to the third round.
Alex Rafiee and Cameron Ahari also advanced after two wins, an 8-5 victory over Guy Kubi and Liran Levy of Winthrop before a Peter Billingham and Matt Gordon of Coastal Carolina.
Doubles play will continue tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill.
