Five Tar Heels Selected To Attend MLS Combine

NEW YORK - Major League Soccer announced its initial list of invitees to the 2011 MLS Combine on Thursday and the Tar Heels will be well represented as five seniors were named to the list. The 2011 MLS Player Combine will take place in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Jan. 7-11 and will feature Tar Heel seniors Eddie Ababio, Jalil Anibaba, Michael Farfan, Stephen McCarthy and Dustin McCarty.
Of the 54 college seniors named to the MLS Combine list 36 schools were represented with Carolina being one of only two schools to have five players invited, more than any other school.
The initial player list was determined by a panel of Division I college coaches, representing all conferences, who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches. These players will be joined by Generation adidas players, additional collegiate players from NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA schools, and Division I alternates.
The players will be split into four teams and play against each other Jan. 8-11 at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
The MLS SuperDraft is set for Jan. 13, 2011 in Baltimore, Md. The 2011 SuperDraft will consist of four rounds with 18 selections each for a total of 72 players selected during the draft.
