Tarheelblue.com caught up with 1B/P Danielle Spaulding before a preseason practice for a quick interview. The Rancho Cucamonga, Cali. native discusses her thoughts on the upcoming season, whether she enjoys hitting or pitching more, her favorite part of being a Tar Heel, and more.
Spaulding, the two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, excels both in the circle and at the plate. Quite possibly the most dominate pitcher in all of collegiate softball last season, Spaulding led the nation with 14.3 strikeouts per seven innings. The two-time NFCA All-America finished the 2009 season with a 20-3 record and a 1.44 ERA. Also dangerous with the bat, Spaulding led the Tar Heels in home runs (12) and RBIs (45), while ranking third in runs scored (22) and fourth in batting average (.311) last season.
