In today's installment of Countdown to First Pitch we let the incoming freshman of the Class of 2014 say in their own words why they chose to be a Tar Heel. The freshman signed National Letter of Intents to attend the University of North Carolina in November of 2009.
Ashley Bone, Rocky Mount, N.C.
"I chose to become a Tar Heel because I was extremely impressed with the overall academic and athletic programs offered at UNC. I was able to join a program that is ever-growing and able to take my dreams and aspirations to the next level. I love the Carolina blue color, and the chance to play for a dominating softball program and staff!"
Sara Buchholz, Miami, FL
"Deciding to make UNC my choice was an easy decision. I love absolutely everything about the school. From the school's rich history, idyllic campus, to the challenging academics - everything appealed to me. The coaches were welcoming and definitely made me feel as if I would be in a place where I would be able to compete both on the field and in the classroom. Athletics and academics are both very important to me, and UNC fulfilled both of those requirements. The people are welcoming, the location is ideal - I even like the school colors. So in the end, North Carolina was the only place I could really see myself going and I absolutely cannot wait to get up there."
Lori Spingola, Roswell, GA
"I choose UNC because it has excellent academics with a great college feel, and a proven softball program. As a pitcher the third most important factor was that UNC has a dedicated pitching coach."
Amy Nece, Highland, CA
"I chose UNC because I wanted to experience the east coast and I wanted to go to a college that has a football team so I could get the whole 'college experience.' I wanted to play ball there not only because it has a great program and coaches, but also because UNC has a great overall athletic program."
