
Tar Heels Wrap Up Day One At Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - LaToya James finished first in the qualifying trials for the 100-meter hurdles to kick off the University of North Carolina's outdoor track and field season on Friday at the Wake Forest Open. James is one of four Tar Heels who qualified for the finals in three events.
James ran the hurdles in 13.63 to open her junior outdoor season. Her preliminary time is two-tenths of a second ahead of the rest of the pack giving her the top-seed for Saturday's final.
The Carolina women carded two more final spots from Malai Walker and Zoey Russell in the 100 dash. Walker earned second in the prelims at 11.88 and Russell seventh in 12.20.
In the women's 400, Elizabeth Mott and Christine Johnson opened their outdoor seasons with top-five finishes. Mott ran in 54.69 to take third place and Johnson in 55.17 to follow at fourth. Tasha Stanley (57.35) and Callie Pottinger (57.97) also ran finishing 12th and 15th.
On the men's side, Kelvin Hardesty placed third overall in the prelims of the 100. Hardesty raced 10.68 and will compete in the finals on day-two. Also representing the men's team on the first day were Kenneth Andoll and Reynaldo Radlin in the 110-meter hurdles. Andoll ran in 16.05 missing finals qualification and Radlin was unable to finish the race.
The Tar Heels will wrap up competition at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday. Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. and live results are available via Flash Results.
