Tar Heels Keep Class Of 2006 Cup

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The North Carolina rowing team picked up valuable experience and retained the Class of 2006 Cup in a morning of racing against Georgetown Saturday on the Potamac River. The Tar Heels won the varsity eight and varsity four races, the former of which determines which school keeps the trophy for the coming year. UNC also had the trophy in 2009.
Georgetown took wins in the second varsity eight and novice four. In addition, the Hoyas' lightweight second varsity eight beat the UNC novice eight.
The Tar Heels now turn their attention to Sunday's Occoquan Sprints in Occoquan, Va. "We're very happy about the morning, and the team is pretty pumped about keeping the Cup," Carolina coach Sarah Haney said. "We know we have some things to work on for tomorrow and for the weeks ahead, but we feel good that the effort that we put out today equated a victory."
