No. 1 Tar Heels Roll Past BC, 7-0

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 1 North Carolina did not drop a set in sweeping a short-handed Boston College squad, 7-0, Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels got straight-set wins from Katrina Tsang, Jelena Durisic, Gina Suarez-Malaguti, Zoe De Bruycker and Linzee Mabrey over the Eagles, who were forced to default matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles due to a lack of healthy players. UNC improved to 15-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while BC fell to 5-9, 1-4 in the ACC.
With Boston College unable to field a full lineup, the Tar Heels needed just two wins to sweep the doubles point.
Tsang teamed with Suarez-Malaguti at No. 2 doubles to post a decisive 8-2 win over Katarina Gajic and Katharine Attwell before Jocelyn Ffriend and Haley Hemm took care of business at No. 1 to finish out doubles.
After getting a second point due to the defaulted match at No. 6 singles, Carolina wasted no time in putting the Eagles away.
Durisic needed just 50 minutes to make it 3-0, as she did not drop a game in dispatching Atwell, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3.
No. 42 Tsang sealed the team victory at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Alex Kelleher just before Suarez-Malaguti finished off Attwell at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3.
De Bruycker blew open a tight match at No. 5, winning nine of the final 10 games to score a 6-3, 6-0 decision.
Mabrey was the final Tar Heel off, as the senior defeated Elizabeth Workman, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 5.
Carolina faces a quick turnaround, as the Tar Heels host Maryland Sunday afternoon at 1.
