Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy were named ITA All-Americans Monday after their inspired run into the semifinals of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships.
Donato and Hardy, who entered the tournament ranked 19th nationally, upset the No. 3-ranked pairing from Southern California in the second round before falling in the semifinals to the overall No. 2-ranked duo from the University of Tennessee. Donato and Hardy had a 19-5 record at No. 1 doubles during the regular season for the Tar Heels.
Donato, a senior, reached the semifinal in doubles for a second consecutive year, achieving the feat in 2009 with former Tar Heel Taylor Fogleman. Donato finished his 2009-10 season with a 24-14 singles record at the No. 1 flight for the Heels. Hardy also had a successful singles campaign playing mostly in the No. 3 flight, going 21-11 on the year.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association named eight other ACC men's tennis players to the team, including NCAA doubles champions Drew Courtney and Michael Shabaz of Virginia.
