CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -
University of North Carolina golfer Courtney Gunter has been selected a 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America Scholar in just her first year as a Tar Heel.
Gunter, from Matthews, N.C., will be a sophomore on the Tar Heel team this fall. She carded five top-30 finishes and was recently named to the 2010 All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team. Gunter tied for 16th place at the ACC Championships and tied for 39th at the NCAA East Regional.
The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II and III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
