KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Missouri Athletic Club released its Hermann Trophy Watch List on Wednesday, a list that featured a pair of Tar Heels. Senior Michael Farfan and junior Billy Schuler were both on the list of 39 student-athletes vying for the National Player of the Year honor.
Farfan, an All-America a year ago, tallied five goals and four assists in 2009 from his midfield position. The Wildomar, Calif., native started all 22 games for the Tar Heels during their run to the College Cup and was also a first-team All-ACC selection.
Schuler led the squad with 23 points in 2009 as the Allentown, N.J., product netted nine goals and distributed five assists on the year. Schuler also earned All-America honors for his performance on the field as one of Carolina's main offensive weapons.
Voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy is conducted in late November, when a field of 15 semifinalists is reduced to three finalists. Those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.
