LONG BEACH, Calif. - The pre-season honors continue to pour in for the North Carolina men's soccer team as the Tar Heels were pegged No. 1 in the country by Top Drawer Soccer this week. The Tar Heels are coming off a 16-2-4 record in 2009 and a second straight College Cup appearance.

Top Drawer Soccer ranks the 48 teams they expect to make the NCAA tournament every Monday and for the 2010 edition have selected the Tar Heels as the top team entering the season.

Carolina is one of seven ACC teams in the initial poll with Maryland (3), Wake Forest (5), Virginia (7) and Duke (9) all ranked among the top 10. Boston College checks in at No. 11, while NC State is in the field at No. 34.

The Tar Heels open the regular season Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. against second-ranked Akron in a rematch of the College Cup.
