HANAHAN, S.C. -
The North Carolina women's golf team extended its lead at the Cougar Classic. The Tar Heels fired a three-under-par 285 for the second day in a row and have a six-under 570 total and hold a nine-stroke advantage over South Carolina. Carolina was led by Jackie Chang and Courtney Gunter, who shot 69 and 71 respectively, in Monday's second round.
"It was another good day for us," said Tar Heel head coach Jan Mann. "We head a rough start; at one point I believe we were seven-over, but on the back nine the girls really turned it on, fought back and got it back to three-under for the day. Jackie had a very good day - she turned it around after bogeying the third hole, got four birdies and ended up three-under. Courtney was two-over early and brought it back to one-under."
"We're looking forward to playing tomorrow," Mann continued. "I'm confident the girls will do well. We're playing with confidence, playing well and hope to come out on top."
Gunter, the first round leader, is now tied for the individual lead at four-under 140. The Matthews, N.C., native fired a one-under 71 on Monday after birdying three holes on the back nine. Chang, a freshman from Paradise Valley, Ariz., was the low Tar Heel in the second round firing a three-under 69. Freshman Katherine Perry fired a one-under 71 on Tuesday. The Cary, N.C., native has a 147 total and is tied for 20th place while competing as an individual.
