Sept. 13, 2010

Senior Eddie Ababio of the University of North Carolina men's soccer team has been named the Progress Energy Performer of the Week for the week of September 6-12, 2010. Ababio, a senior forward from Tampa, Fla., tallied the lone goal in No. 4 UNC's 1-0 road win over rival NC State on Friday. Ababio registered just one shot on the night but it was the difference maker as he finished off a perfect pass from Michael Farfan in the 32nd minute. The Tampa, Fla., native moved into a familiar position on Friday as Ababio started at forward after playing defense the past three years.
Other nominees this week included:
SHELBEY BLEKE

Junior, Middle Blocker
Gainesville, Fla.
Shelbey Bleke averaged 1.70 blocks per set and 2.30 kills per set to lead North Carolina to a 2-1 and second place finish at the LSU Tiger Classic. The Gainesville, Fla., native amassed 23 kills to just four errors good for a .487 hitting percentage. The middle blocker added 17 blocks, including a career-best eight against Rice, to anchor the Carolina defense. The red-shirt junior has already set new career-highs in kills (10), blocks (8) and serve aces (2) in 10 games in 2010.

The Tar Heels rolled to a 4-0 lead by halftime, and she kicked off the second half with her second goal of the day in the 42nd minute. Gaudioso Radvany has four goals this season, the second-highest total on the team.
Megan Brigman
Women's Soccer

Brigman helped lead a defensive line that also included Rachel Wood and Crystal Dunn in shutting out the two non-conference opponents as UNC improved to 6-0-1 on the campaign.
