Carolina Golfers Back To Work For Mason Rudolph Championship

The North Carolina women's golf team carded a one-over-par 289 total putting the Tar Heels in 11th place after the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship. Carolina was led by two Tar Heels, Casey Grice and Jackie Chang, who fired a one-under-par 71 respectively.
Jackie Chang, a freshman from Paradise Valley, Ariz., lead of the Tar Heels by posting birdies on the sixth, seventh and 16th holes while carding a double-bogey on the 17th hole. Chang finished the day at one-under-par 71 to tie for 25th place along side teammate Casey Grice. Grice, a freshman hailing from College Station, Tex., carded five birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey for her one-under-par 71 total. A few strokes back freshman Katherine Perry, from Cary, N.C., shot an even par 72 and is tied for 33rd place. Junior Catherine O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., posted a three-over-par 75 and is tied for 57th with sophomore teammate Courtney Gunter, from Matthews, N.C. Sarah Thead, a senior from Poway, Calif., is playing as an individual and is tied for 68th after carding a 76.
LSU leads the field after firing a 10-under 278. One stroke back and gunning for the lead is Purdue and California tied for second at nine-under-par 279. Duke carded a five-under 283 total and is currently alone in third place. Georgia is tied for fifth with UCLA, both teams posting a four-under 284 while Alabama is one stroke behind at 285. Wake Forest is tied for eighth with Florida and Southern California after carding a 286.
Wake Forest's Michelle Shin shot a career low seven-under-par 65 while also tying a Mason Rudolph Championship single-round record. Two strokes back at 67 are LSU's Tessa Teachman, Alabama's Brooke Pancake and Purdue's Maude-Aimee LeBlanc. There is a five-way tie for fifth at four-under 68 and Duke has three players tied for 10th at 69.
The 54-hole event continues through Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club which features a par 72, 6,281-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
