Carolina Golfers Fall Behind In Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, TENN. - The North Carolina women's golf team carded a 15-over-par 303 in the second round of the Mason Rudolph Championship pushing the Tar Heels back three spots and tied for 14th place with Stanford. Carolina was once again led by freshman Casey Grice who fired a two-over-par 74 for day two of the event.
Casey Grice, from College Station, Tex., started the second day by posting two bogeys and a double-bogey on the back nine. Her performance on the front nine brought Grice to a one-over-par 145 total and tied for 39th place. The second low Tar Heel of the day was the sophomore from Matthews, N.C., Courtney Gunter who fired a three-over-75. Gunter is tied for 63rd place. Jackie Chang, a freshman from Paradise Valley, Ariz., carded a five-over-par 77 on Saturday tying her for 52nd place. One stroke back and tied for 57th is Cary, N.C., native Katherine Perry who also posted a five-over-par 77 for the second round. Junior Catherine O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra, Fla., is tied for 69th place after also carding a five-over 77. Sarah Thead, a senior from Poway, Calif., who is playing as an individual posted a three-over 75 and is tied for 67th with a seven-over-par 151 total.
LSU continues to lead the 17-team field with a 16-under-par 560 total. Trailing one stroke behind is Purdue at 15-under 561. California sits alone in third place at 13-under-par 563 while Georgia and Wake Forest are tied for fourth with six-under 570 totals. Alabama is sixth at five-under 571, UCLA is seventh at four-under 572, Southern California is eighth at three-under 573 and Vanderbuilt is ninth at two-under 574. Duke holds the 10th spot after carding a nine-over 297 in the second round putting them at a four-over 580 total.
Wake Forest's Michelle Shin was unable to repeat her seven-under-par 65 performance from Friday but is still tied for first place with California's Pia Halbig at nine-under 135 totals. Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Purdue is third after carding an eight-under-par 136, Brooke Pancake of Alabama is fourth with a seven-under 137 total and Marta Silva of Georgia is fifth with a six-under 138 total. There is a three-way tie for sixth place among LSU's Mary Michael Maggio and Tessa Teachman and Alabama's Camilla Lennarth.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club which features a par 72, 6,281-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
