Carolina Golfers Finish 14th At the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship

FRANKLIN, TENN. - The North Carolina women's golf team carded a five-over-par 293 for the final round of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship to finish in 14th place. Junior Catherine O'Donnell led the Tar Heels in Sunday's final round by firing a one-under-par 71.
O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra, Fla., posted four birdies and three bogeys bringing her to a seven-over 223 total. Casey Grice and Katherine Perry both shot a one-over 73. Grice, a freshman from College Station, Tex., finished the event with a two-over 218 and tied for 42nd while Perry, a freshman from Cary, N.C., ended the event with posting a six-over 222 and tied for 51st place. Both Jackie Chang and Courtney Gunter carded a four-over 76 in Sunday's final round. Chang, a freshman from Paradise Valley, Ariz., finished the tournament in 61st place after posting an eight-over 224 and Gunter, a sophomore from Matthews, N.C., ended up tied for 67th after carding a 10-over 226. Also tied for 67th was her teammate Sarah Thead who played the tournament as an individual. Thead, a senior from Poway, Calif., fired a three-over-par 75 in the final round.
LSU extended its lead on Sunday bringing the Tigers to a 21-under-par 843 for the win. Purdue solidified its spot in second after firing a four-under 284 in the final round and tied for third was Southern California and UCLA with 13-under 851 totals. California sat alone in fifth after carding a 10-under 854 and Alabama was by itself in sixth after posting a five-under 859. Georgia and Vanderbilt tied for seventh with two-under 862 totals while the Wake Forest Deacons captured ninth place at three-over 867. Duke and Florida tied with eight-over 872 totals to complete the top ten.
Wake Forest's Michelle Shin was unable to maintain her top spot and finished second with a 10-under 206. Winning the individual medalist honors at 13-under 203 was Pia Halbig of California. Cydney Clayton of Auburn jumped all the way from a 10th place to finish third with an eight-under 208. There was a five-way tie for fourth at a seven-under 209 between UCLA's Ani Gulugian, Purdue's Maude-Aimee LeBlanc, Alabama's Camilla Lennarth, LSU's Megan McChrystal and Southern California's Lisa McCloskey. Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State, Lindy Duncan of Duke, Numa Gulyanamitta of Purdue, Stephanie Kono of UCLA and Brooke Pancake of Alabama all tied for ninth place with five-under 211 totals.
The 54-hole event was played Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club which features a par 72, 6,281-yard layout. The Tar Heels return to action Oct. 8-10 for the Tar Heel Invitational Chapel Hill.
