Hernandez, Boyajian Advance At National Collegiate Tennis Classic

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.- Jose Hernandez and Brennan Boyajian have advanced in both singles and doubles after two rounds at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic.
Hernandez, ranked No. 30 nationally by the ITA, and Boyajian, No. 90, received byes in the first round of singles. In the second round, Hernandez defeated Cal Poly's Jordan Bridge 7-5, 1-0 (ret.) At the bottom of the bracket, Boyajian took out UC-Santa Barbara's Benjamin Recknagel 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
The pair, playing together in doubles for the first time in the 2010-11 campaign, also received a bye through the first round of the doubles draw. Hernandez and Boyajian moved into Saturday's third round of action after the doubles pair of Recknagel and Cal Poly's Alex Sonesson defaulted their second round tie.
The rest of the Tar Heels are competing this weekend in the UNC Invitational, which is being held at Chapel Hill's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
