CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -
The Tar Heel gymnastics team was recognized Tuesday night at the men's basketball game versus Clemson. The UNC Athletic Association honored the gymnasts during the 12-minute timeout for winning the 2010 EAGL conference championship. The championship team was met with a standing ovation from the crowds for their successful efforts last season.
The Tar Heels began 2010 with the goal of winning the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships and achieved that goal by scoring a 196.025 to top NC State and West Virginia. A different gymnast had the highest Carolina score on each event to win the program's fourth EAGL championship.
This year's team hopes to build on that success, repeating as conference champions and taking momentum into NCAA Regionals. The Tar Heels next meet is Saturday, 1 p.m., at Rutgers.
