CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The second-ranked North Carolina men's soccer team will take to the road Monday for a non-conference matchup as the Tar Heels will travel to Davidson, N.C. to take on Davidson at 7 p.m. Carolina will look to extend its unbeaten streak to double digits on Monday as the Tar Heels have not lost a match since Sept. 10.
Redshirt junior forward Billy Schuler is on a hot streak for the Tar Heels having scored in the last four matches. Schuler has found the back of the net a single-season best 10 times in 2011, equaling Enzo Martinez' mark from a year ago. Schuler is four goals shy of tying Brian Shriver who posted the highest single-season total since 2003 when he tallied 14 goals in 2008.
Just a point behind Schuler is junior midfielder Enzo Martinez who has found the back of the net seven times on the year and contributed an assist on seven other goals for the Tar Heels.
Carolina's 4-2 win over College of Charleston on Friday helped extend its overall goal differential to 22 on the year as the Tar Heels have scored 32 goals, while allowing just 10.
A big reason for the scoring advantage has been the play of the Tar Heel backline who have allowed an average of just 0.77 goals per game this season to lead the ACC.
Carolina has been one of the most disciplined teams in the country under first year head coach Carlos Somoano being whistled for an ACC-low 102 fouls, 14 fewer than the next closest team.
Davidson has claimed victory in just one of its last six matches and are coming off a 2-0 loss at home to Longwood on Friday. Brian McGue and Max Riehemann lead the Wildcats with three goals apiece on the year. Goalkeeper Chip Sanders has kept the Wildcats in several matches as he has made 38 saves on the year to rank among the top 100 in the nation.
Up next for the Tar Heels is a visit from No. 3 Maryland on Friday as the Tar Heels and Terrapins will do battle at 5:30 p.m. at Fetzer Field on ESPNU.
