Henderson, Mock Claim Seventh Place Finishes At Cliff Keen Invite

LAS VEGAS - Sophomore Corey Mock and Evan Henderson each claimed seventh place finishes in the final day of the Cliff Keen Invite Saturday in Las Vegas, Nev. Each went 2-1 on the day to claim a top eight showing at the prestigious event.
Henderson opened the day with a pin of Boise State's Josh Strait in 6:23 before dropping a narrow, 8-7, decision to Jake Sueflohn of Nebraska forcing Henderson into the seventh place bout.
The 141-pound freshman rolled to a 7-2 win over Cornell's Michael Nevinger who was ranked No. 12 in the country coming into the tournament. The seventh place finish is the second showing of Henderson's career after claiming the title at the Hokie Open in his collegiate debut.
Sophomore Corey Mock turned in a 2-1 day of his own en route to a seventh pace finish at 157 pounds. Mock claimed a 12-5 win over Michigan's Brandon Zeerip in his opening bout of the day. Oregon State's Roger Pena got the better of Mock in his next bout as Pena registered a 10-4 win to put Mock in the seventh place bout.
Mock blanked Wyoming's Dakota Friesth for a 7-0 win and a seventh place finish. The seventh place finish was Mock's second showing of the year as well after he claimed third place at the Hokie Open.
Other Tar Heels in action included Jon Burns at 149 and Thomas Ferguson at 184.
urns dropped a 7-4 decision against Oregon State's Scott Sakaguchi who came into the weekend ranked No. 7 in the country at 149 pounds.
Ferguson faced a tough test of his own against Ohio State's Cody Magrum as Magrum claimed a 9-4 decision to end Ferguson's weekend.
The Tar Heels will now be off from full team competitions until the Southern Scuffle set for Jan. 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
