CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina men's tennis team won its sixth straight Sunday afternoon when it whitewashed Boston College, 7-0, at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels jumped on the Eagles early, winning all three doubles matches to clinch the point. Stefan Hardy and Joey Burkhardt, ranked 59th by the ITA, rolled their opponents at No. 2, 8-2. Alex Rafiee made a rare appearance in the lineup, pairing with Cameron Ahari to win at the third flight, 8-6. Brennan Boyajian paired with Jose Hernandez to win at No. 1, 8-3, before resting during the singles portion.
With the regular No. 2 Boyajian on the sidelines, everyone else moved up a flight for the singles portion. Undeterred, the Tar Heels kept up the good play and took every singles flight. Hernandez (#1), Hardy (#2), Zach Hunter (#5) and Ahari (#6) all had relatively easy outings, and no Tar Heel needed more than two sets to clinch their victories. William Parker, who didn't see action in doubles, had a rough start in his singles match before dominating the second set to win 7-5, 6-0.
Head coach Sam Paul: "I'm proud of the guys today, we came back with good focus, and now we just need to get ready for Virginia Tech."
The Tar Heels move to 9-4 and 4-0 in the ACC. Conference play heats up for the Heels as they embark on a four-match road trip, starting with a match against No. 36 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Friday, April 1 at 2:30 p.m.
