Moran, Kinderwater Share Tar Heel Of The Week Honors

Freshman Colin Moran and senior Joe Kinderwater are the co-Tar Heel Performers of the Week for March 20-26, 2011. Moran produced at a torrid pace at the plate to lead the Tar Heel baseball team to a sweep of Duke and a 5-0 week overall while Kinderwater led the UNC swimmers to their highest NCAA finish in 18 years and became only the third four-time first-team All-America in school history in the sport dating back to 1939.

Freshman third baseman Colin Moran helped North Carolina to a perfect 5-0 week as the Tar Heels extended their winning streak to a season-long nine games. Moran belted four home runs in the five games and finished with a 1.471 slugging percentage for the week thanks to three doubles, a triple and the four long balls. Came through in the clutch on two occasions as he tied Sunday's game against rival Duke with a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and drove in the eventual game-winning run with a solo home run in Saturday's come from behind victory. Moran currently leads the ACC in in RBI (35), total bases (61) and walks (24).

Kinderwater finished fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships and in the process became only the third Tar Heel men's swimmer in history, dating back to 1939, to be named a first-team All-America all four years of his college career. Kinderwater set school records in the 1000-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships and helped lead UNC to its highest NCAA finish (14th) since 1993 andonly the program's fourth Top 15 finish since 1967. Kinderwater joins Norm Sper (1947-50) and Eric Ericson (1981-84) as the only four-time first-team All-Americas in UNClore.

Galasso scored four goals and added eight assists in two games to lead the Tar Heels to nationally-televised wins over Dartmouth 12-7 and #5 Maryland 11-6. Galasso had two goals and three assists in the win over the Big Green on Tuesday to record his eighth successive multi-point game of the season. He was even better four days later at Maryland where the Tar Heels won for the first time since 2003 and only the second time since 1993. Galasso had two goals and five assists against the Terps for a career-high seven points as he helped the Tar Heelsrally from a 4-0 first quarter deficit. Galasso's five assists were the most by a Tar Heel since Gavin Petracca had five against Navy in 2010 and his seven points were just one short of the UNC record for points in a game by a freshman which is held by Mike McCall against Fairfield in 2002. His five assists set the UNC record for assists in a game by a freshman as well.

Donohoe scored a game-high five goals on just six shots to lead North Carolina to its fifth consecutive win, a 15-10 home decision over Boston College on Saturday. She connected on two of three free position shots against the Eagles and controlled three draws. Donohoe's five goals give her 29 this season and 169 in her career, tying the UNC school record set by Kellie Thompson (1999-2002). Donohoe also has 216 career points and needs seven more to break Thompson's UNC career record of 222. Earlier in the week, Donohoe had four goals and three draw controls in a 14-5 win over Cornell.

Tar Heel juniors Catherine O'Donnell and Allie White led Carolina to a third-place finish at the Bryan National Collegiate last weekend. Both players fired a 7-over-par 223 total for the three-day event to tie for fifth place in the individual race. O'Donnell carded rounds of 73-74-76 while White posted a 74-71-78 on the par 72, 6,386-yard layout at Bryan Park Champions Course inBrowns Summit, N.C. The Tar Heels return to action April 1-3 at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.

Junior Ally Blake registered a .533 batting average with two home runs and eight RBI leading UNC to a 4-1 week. The Concord, N.C., native cranked a three-run home run in a 6-1 win over Campbell Wednesday. Blake provided three of Carolina's eight runs, including a two-run home run, in their first ever sweep of Florida State this weekend. The junior added a pair of doubles to improve Carolina to 5-1 in league play.

Hernandez anchored the Tar Heel lineup this week in two big wins against Maryland andBoston College that kept UNC on a six-match win streak. The two victories also helped North Carolina remain one of one three undefeated ACC teams in conference play, along withVirginia and Duke. Hernandez's play and leadership for the 15th-ranked Tar Heels will be key this weekend as UNC takes on Virginia Tech and Virginia on the road.

Senior Jelena Durisic had a perfect week in leading Carolina to a trio of ACC road wins over NC State, Maryland and Boston College. Durisic knocked off No. 73 Sandhya Nagaraj of NC State in three sets in UNC's 5-2 win over the Wolfpack and added a pair of straight-set wins over Jordaan Sanford of Maryland and Katarina Gajic of Boston College. The Torrance, Calif., senior teamed with Jennifer Stone to notch three doubles victories on the week. Durisic improved to 16-3 in dual match singles play and 5-0 against ACC opponents.
