Spingola Named ACC Co-Pitcher Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshman Lori Spingola was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week Tuesday, announced by the league office. Spingola posted a 4-0 mark last week to be named as North Carolina topped Campbell and completed a their first series sweep of Florida State in school history.
The freshman gave up just three earned runs in 26.2 innings of work for a 0.79 ERA and struck out 20 batters. The Atlanta, Ga., right-hander opened the week by pitching a complete game at Campbell allowing just one earned run and strinking out six as the Tar Heels prevailed 6-1.
Spingola started the series opener against the Seminoles with the first of her two complete game shutouts on the week. She struck out three as North Carolina claimed a 1-0 victory. Her second shutout came Sunday as she gave up just three hits and fanned five en route to a 4-0 win.
The Atlanta, Ga., product was also named ACC Pitcher of the Week March 1 after tossing her first career perfect game against Penn State. Spingola currently ranks in the top-five in the country in wins (18) and shutouts (7) in 2001.
