Tar Heels Carry Win Streak Into Exam Break

CHAPEL HILL ---- Coming off a perfect week, North Carolina will carry a three-game win streak into exam break and return to action May 7-8 for a three-game set at Maryland. The Tar Heels sit in second place in the ACC with a 11-6 mark and own a 30-19 record overall.
The three game set May 7-8 at Maryland will serve as the final league series of 2011 for Carolina. The pivotal series will determine seeding for the ACC Tournament May 13-15 in Atlanta, Ga. The Terrapins are currently in third place in the ACC with a 8-5 mark with six league games remaining. League leader Georgia Tech can clinch the ACC's top seed with two victories this weekend at Boston College.
Noting the Week of April 20-23
• North Carolina posted a 3-0 mark on the week to finish 2011 with a 16-4 mark at Anderson Stadium. The Tar Heels outscored their opponents 21-6 and improved to 15-0 in games where the offense provides six or more runs.
• UNC celebrated the senior class of Dani Manko, Brittany McKinney and Brittany Robinson this Saturday for senior day. In their final three regular season games at Anderson Stadium, the trio combined for nine hits and nine RBI. All three reached base in their final at-bats Saturday to give UNC a 6-2 win over Boston College.
• Lori Spingola was downright dominant in the circle, picking up all three victories to increase her season win total to 24. The 24 wins are the most since Lisa Norris registered 25 in 2007, and is good for fifth all-time in single season school history -- the school record is 27 held by Crystal Cox (UNC '06). The Atlanta, Ga., native struck out 21 batters and issued just one walk in 18.2 shutout innings this week. Spingola owns 244 strikeouts in 2011, which ranks ninth in single season school history. In addition, her 231.2 innings pitched rank seventh in single season school history.
• Freshman Amy Nece enjoyed a breakout week at the plate, collecting six hits in eight at-bats to lead Carolina with a .750 batting average on the week. The Redlands, Calif., native started all three games in the outfield and registered a pair of stolen bases. Nece earned a .778 on-base percentage and scored five runs. The freshman has posted three straight multi-hit efforts.
• Sophomore Haleigh Dickey hit safely in all three games this week to extend her season-best hit streak to seven games. The Woodstock, Ga., product leads UNC with a .363 batting average, 11 home runs and 41 RBI in 2011, all career-bests.
• Ally Blake recorded a team-best five RBI on the week. The junior provided half of the runs in a 4-0 win over Boston College with a big two RBI double. Blake added two RBI in an 11-4 rout over Elon Wednesday.
