GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshman Lori Spingola was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week Tuesday, announced by the league office. Spingola posted a 3-0 mark last week in the circle, leading North Carolina to wins over Elon and Boston College.
The freshman gave up just one run, unearned, in 18.2 innings of work for a 0.00 ERA. Spingola struck out 21 batters and issued just one walk. The Atlanta, Ga., right-hander now ranks fifth all-time in single season school history in wins with 24, just three shy of the school record 27 victories.
Spingola struck out 10 over 6.2 innings of work in a 11-4 win over Elon last Wednesday. The Tar Heel ace followed that performance with her ninth complete-game shutout of 2011 against Boston College Saturday. In her third start of the week, she tossed five shutout innings to en route to her 24th victory of 2011.
The Atlanta, Ga., product was named ACC Pitcher of the Week March 1 after tossing her first career perfect game against Penn State and Co-Pitcher of the Week March 29 en route to picking up three wins over Florida State.
