CHAPEL HILL- North Carolina men's tennis players Stefan Hardy, Brennan Boyajian and Jose Hernandez were named a part of the 18-man All-ACC team as voted on by the conference's 12 coaches.
This is the second All-ACC nod for Hardy. The senior from Santa Maria, Calif., was also named as a sophomore in 2008. As the only senior to receive regular playing time for the Tar Heels, Hardy held 7-4 singles and 8-3 doubles mark in the ACC. Hardy has played regularly in singles and doubles since his freshman year, and held overall 75-36 (singles) and 89-30 (doubles) records entering the ACC tournament. Though he wasn't named All-ACC as a junior in 2010, he and doubles partner Clay Donato received All-America honors after reaching the semifinals of the NCAA tournament.
Boyajian, a junior from Weston, Fla., was named to the team for the first time. Boyajian excelled this season in singles after moving up to the second flight, going 8-2 in the ACC. In the regular season win against Duke, Boyajian beat then-No. 9 Reid Carleton, 6-1, 6-1 for his biggest victory in terms of ranked opponents of his career. In his three seasons, Boyajian has an overall singles mark of 56-30.
Hernandez earns his second All-ACC selection in as many seasons. The sophomore from Santo Domingo, D.R., made an immediate impact when he arrived in 2010 and continued this year when he moved into the top flight. In singles, Hernandez went 14-5 overall and 9-2 in the ACC. Currently ranked No. 22, Hernandez split regular season matches with No. 15 and ACC Player of the Year Guillermo Gomez from Georgia Tech, and defeated Duke's No. 8 Henrique Cunha to clinch the regular season match against the Blue Devils.
