UNC Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Mike Fox
Opening Statement
“I don't know where to start. We are so happy these young men are going to get the experience of Omaha again. It will be the thrill of a lifetime for them. We're going to go out there and have a blast. I've kind of known…I told them three or four weeks ago that I felt that deep down inside that we were going to go back, and they did it. What a great credit to them. It's fitting the way that we had to do it, just getting through our season, all the obstacles and hurdles we've had to overcome. You can throw on top of that a three and a half hour rain delay, so it's kind of fitting, because we have never done much the easy way. It's been the hard way all year long. Stanford had a great, great year, and I congratulate them and their coaching staff for the year that they had, and I congratulate my players for an unbelievable run so far. We are looking forward to going to the new stadium in Omaha and seeing it up close and personal.”
Freshman Starting Pitcher Kent Emanuel
On his struggles pitching in the first inning:
“I made a couple of bad pitches. The guy I hit was on a fastball in and I wasn't too worried about that because I'd rather miss inside than over the plate. So I think it was just some coincidences in the first inning.”
Junior Catcher Jacob Stallings
On how close the shortstop came to catching his RBI single in the top of the ninth inning:
“He did come close. It's a game of inches though. I thought he would catch it, honestly. But I'm glad he didn't.”

Stanford Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Mark Marquess
“First of all, congratulations to North Carolina. That's a great team and a great effort, and we wish them all the best in Omaha. I know they'll play very well. I'm very impressed with them. In both games, they just outplayed us in all phases. I thought we played hard and we bounced back well tonight, down 6-1 and came back and made a game of it. Defense, hitting, pitching; they just beat us in all phases. Our hats are off to them, so congratulations to them. They played great.
“As far as our team, I'm very proud of this team. It's beyond my expectations with our schedule and losing a couple of guys and a lot of freshmen, so I'm very proud of this group, especially my seniors. They brought a lot of leadership, so I'm very proud of this group. But again, this is North Carolina's day, and deservedly so. They played great, and I'm really impressed with their team.”
On if the rain delay hurt his team's momentum…
“It wasn't a big problem for their hitter. It was the same for both teams. And I would also like to comment because I've been to a lot of regionals over many years, and this was as well-run as any of them. Very first-class, obviously the facility is beautiful, but the staff and everybody and the NCAA reps – I don't think you could have handled it any better in the rain delay. There was no disadvantage for anybody; it was convenient. Three hours is a long time, but the right decision was made.”
Right Fielder Austin Wilson
On how deflating North Carolina's insurance run in the ninth was…
“Obviously, it was hard to see that because we were down one and we were pretty confident going in that we could get one out and come back to win the game. But two runs is a hard deficit to overcome. Our team this year, we had a lot of comeback wins, so I wasn't scared in that sense.”
On his three-run double…
“It was a slider. The first pitch I was sitting dead red, I got a little too anxious and I swung early on that. Then he threw a fastball and I foul-tipped that and it was 0-2. He came back with two sliders, then he came back with another one and I just kind of stayed on it. I kind of got fooled, but I was able to hit it pretty well.”
On the in-game adjustments Stanford made to score late in both games…
“Yesterday, we had to adjust to the zone. They were calling some outside strikes, so we made some in-game adjustments and I felt like yesterday it was too late. I felt like today, we kind of started that earlier, against the lefty (Kent Emanuel), but it didn't work out like that.”
