Chapel Hill, N.C. - Former Tar Heel Christine Knauer helped the Chicago Bandits defeat the USSSA Florida Pride 10-3 to capture the National Pro Fastpitch Cowles Cup at McMurry Park Sunday afternoon.
Knauer came on to pinch run for Nikki Nemitz who lined a one-out double to right field in the bottom of the first. The Long Island, N.Y., native scored on a single by second baseman Vicky Galindo, stretching the Bandits' lead to 5-0 after one frame.
Series MVP Monica Abbot kept the Pride off balance for the second consecutive day and avoided a deciding game three. Abbot went the distance, scattering five hits and surrendering only three earned runs and fanning five Pride batters.
The game was broadcasted to a national TV audience on ESPN2.
