CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After suffering its first defeat of the year, the North Carolina men's soccer team returns to the pitch Tuesday when the Tar Heels host James Madison in a non-conference tilt set for 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field. The Tar Heels are 1-2-0 all-time against the Dukes but have not played the CAA foe since 1994.
Carolina dropped its ACC opener for the first time since 2006, a span of four straight years, on Saturday when the Hokies put away the game-winning goal less than three minutes into the second overtime session.
The loss snapped a 10-match unbeaten streak against ACC opponents during the regular season, dating back to a loss against Boston College on Oct. 17, 2009.
The Tar Heels will look to keep another streak alive on Tuesday when they vie for their eighth straight regular season non-conference win.
James Madison boasts a 2-0-1 record on the year with wins over Florida Atlantic (1-0) and UNC Asheville (4-1) to go along with a 3-3 tie at Longwood on Saturday.
Patrick Innes and Adam Bastidas each have a pair of goals on the year to lead the Dukes, while Innes, Dale Robins-Bailey and Christian McLaughlin all have two assists in 2011.
The Tar Heels and Dukes met three consecutive years from 1992-1994 as the teams split the first two meetings and then James Madison claimed the third in 1994.
